The Biology of Belief

The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, and Miracles
By Bruce Lipton

Bruce Lipton, through his various experiments, professors and mentors, learned the importance of the environment in which cells lived (Chapter 2). In Chapter 3, Mr. Lipton brings up his belief that the brain of the cell is in the membrane. He follows with some explanations, examples and pictures.

Ch. 4

Discusses quantum physics versus Newtonian physics with regard to biology. For a very long time I have felt that the medical community needed to meld physics into their work, so reading this chapter made me very happy.

Ch. 5

Discusses the effect the mind can have on the body through hypnosis, placebos and negative thinking.

Ch. 6

Talks about the body’s ability to grow or protect - and this happens on a cellular level and controlled by the nervous system. With so much stress in our lives, how many people stay in “protection” mode rather than growth mode?

Ch. 7

Suggests ways for parents to … As a parent of young adults, I admit I kind of lost interest in this section. I agree with the premise.

I found the discussion of Integral Membrane Proteins (IMPs) so fascinating because IMPs can act as receptor or effector proteins. Receptor proteins behave as sensory organs that receive information from the environment. This information comes in as many formats as there are receptors: chemical, hormonal, histamine, insulin and vibrational energy.

YOUR CELLS CAN BE INFLUENCED BY VIBRATIONAL ENERGY!

And what largely determines your vibrational energy? Your thoughts and emotions!

Just let that sink in for a bit.

The back cover of the book says, “this book will forever change how you think about your own thinking.”

For me, it goes deeper than that. This book changed the way I viewed my own biology and every cell that makes up ME. This book gave me a sense of empowerment and led me to find one of my biggest mistakes that I feel led to the creation of my cancer: my thoughts and my feelings right before I fell asleep. When I was young, I remember feeling so very happy every night right before I fell asleep. I went to bed each night with a smile on my face. I felt the same when I was newly married. Thirteen years later, during the custody battle for my step-daughter, I felt so much stress in my body that I found it hard to unwind and relax, to be able to sleep. The next year, during my divorce, I felt heartbroken, betrayed, as if my entire marriage had been a sham. And, having two children, I used the only time available to me to process those feelings: at night after they were asleep and right before I fell asleep. Therefore, I fell asleep every night in a quagmire of negativity and pain. According to Mr. Lipton, negativity and pain were the very things that I telegraphed to every cell in my body, every night. Your thoughts and your emotions, in part, create the environment that can determine the health of your cells. THIS IS POWERFUL!

The epilogue ranks as my second favorite part of the book. I loved Mr. Lipton’s story of his journey to find connectedness. It felt like the ultimate closure.
