7/4, Week in Galveston – I felt tired, cranky, and I just wanted to be left alone. I probably wasn’t too nice to the people around me. We stayed on Tiki Island, so to get to the beach we had to drive.
7/21, Hot Air Balloon Ride – For my 50th birthday I received a hot air balloon ride for 4, something that was at the top of my bucket list. It was a very generous gift. It took some coordination to find a day that worked for all of us AND the weather conditions were optimal. We got up at 5:30 a.m., met at 6:15 at the designated spot and caravanned to a large open parking lot. The crew unloaded, rolled out the balloon, started to fill the balloon with air from a large fan, then lit the propane burners to fill it with hot air. The balloon slowly started to lift itself off the ground, then faster, until it cleared the parking lot. The crew righted the basket and each participant gathered around the edge of the basket to hold it down. Shortly after, the captain had us climb aboard one at a time into designated spaces.
And we took off. What a glorious ride it was. Imagine floating on a cloud in peace and quiet. I felt weightless and peaceful.
