I am kidding about saying “Ahhh.”
I have another strange ailment. This one doesn’t hurt right now. It just looks odd. And I really don’t know what it is. The dentist doesn’t know. The doctor doesn’t know. I didn’t even think to mention it to the endodontist.
After my father died (in 2008) and during the craziness of getting to the East Coast, making funeral arrangements and holding the funeral, I expected to have a fever blister due to the stress. Oddly that didn’t happen. But what did happen was my tongue swelled and my mouth began to burn like it was on fire. I had a very hard time eating. In short, I was fairly miserable. When I got home I checked with my GP who had no idea what was going on. I cannot afford not to be able to eat. I lose weight way too easily. A friend mentioned a good Chinese doctor who also does acupuncture. Side note, I had never had acupuncture and I had always wanted to try it. The Chinese doctor said the tongue issue was a problem with my stomach. She called it stomach fire, did some acupuncture (very cool) and gave me a powder to mix with water. It took a week to get everything back to normal, but it did get back to normal, mostly. What showed up was a small slick spot on the side of my tongue about halfway back. I went back to follow up with the Chinese doctor and she said it was my stomach, to take bitters, make dandelion tea and don’t eat anything spicy (nothing to increase heat). |
These days the spot has reached all the way to the tip of my tongue. When I research the only thing that seems relatively similar is glossitis. But still, no one knows.
Here is a picture I took today.
